Introduction

The Green Village Adoption Project is a landmark initiative jointly undertaken by Prokritti Welfare Trust and Mission Green Universe Foundation.
This visionary program aims to transform rural villages into sustainable, carbon-neutral ecosystems — where nature and livelihood flourish together.

Launched in the 7th Semester, 2025, this project focuses on holistic green development, rural empowerment, and climate-conscious living — paving the way for a greener, self-reliant future.

📍 Project Coverage

  • Adopted Villages: Nowda and Tikapara (Murshidabad District, West Bengal, India)

  • Total Families Covered: 250+

  • Primary Beneficiaries: Farmers, women, children, and marginalized communities

🎯 Objectives

The project envisions building a sustainable ecosystem that nurtures both people and the planet. Its key objectives include:

  1. Developing sustainable Green Villages

  2. Supporting green cover and green livelihoods

  3. Restoring local fruit plants and native biodiversity

  4. Enhancing rural nutrition through diversified fruit plantations

  5. Promoting climate-conscious lifestyles in villages

  6. Encouraging women’s participation in fruit cultivation and entrepreneurship

  7. Creating village–city linkages for sustainable growth and mutual prosperity

🌳 Species of Plants Covered

The program emphasizes the plantation and restoration of native, climate-resilient, and nutrition-rich fruit-bearing species such as:

  • Mango 🍋

  • Coconut 🥥

  • Lichi 🍒

  • Guava 🍐

  • Lemon 🍋

  • Dragon Fruit 🐉🍓

  • Jackfruit 🌿

  • Berry 🍇

  • Wood Lichi 🌱

  • Banana 🍌

These plantations not only restore the green cover but also help in biodiversity conservation, nutrition improvement, and income generation for rural families.

  1. Village Selection: Identifying ecologically and socially suitable villages

  2. Baseline Survey: Assessing local needs, resources, and potential opportunities

  3. Training & Capacity Building: Empowering farmers and women’s groups with knowledge and skills

  4. Plant Distribution & Plantation Drive: Supplying saplings and ensuring proper plantation at both household and community levels

  5. Monitoring & Assessment: Regular follow-up to track plant growth, survival, and social impact

  6. Sustainability Linkages: Connecting local produce and rural initiatives with urban communities for long-term growth
